Kochi got the best New Year gift that it could ever wish for- the state of the art METRO RAIL in the model of the Delhi Metro!
Land Acquisition for Kochi Metro:
The District Collector of Ernakulam A.P.M Mohammed Hanish said that the land acquisition will be completed within seven months from now. About 15 hectares will have to be acquired for which around Rs. 100 crores will be required considering high land prices in Kochi. (5)Thus Kochi is all set to be a real Mega City and it will stretch up to Thrissur in North and Cherthala to the South(6). The problem Kochi facing is that the City limits have not been expanded by the Government, even when the real city area is far more wider than what is today. After that the land availability will increase. The present city limits was craeted in 1967 and after that it was not expanded, thus according to the Statistics Kochi is only the Second Largest City in Kerala.
But the reality is that Kochi is the Largest City in Kerala in terms of area and population and Kochi Metro rail will indeed give a new face to Kochi from its traditional world famous Chinese Fishing Nets and Backwaters etc.
PROPOSED STOPS FOR KOCHI METRO RAIL ARE AS FOLLOWS:Aluva, Pulinchode, Companypady, Ambattukavu, Muttom, Apollo Tyres, St.Mary's Church, Kalamassery, Pathady palam, Edappally Toll Junction, Edappally, Palarivattom, International stadium, Kaloor, Lissie Junction, Madhava Pharmacy, Maharaja's Ground, Ernakulam South junction, GCDA Junction, Fathima Church, Elumkulam, Vyttilla, Thykoodam, Poonithura and Pettah.
Thus there will be a station after each kilometer.
Speed of Kochi Metro Train!:
The proposed speed for Kochi metro train is 36 Km per hour, which is almost equal to the city buses which have a limit of 35 km per hour.
Waiting for the latest news regarding DMRC visit for deciding links and approval by the Central overnment which was passed by state government.

Vivek.... Really nice to know that you passing your time by doing useful things like this, but, why giving importance to Kochi only? There are many other things happening in other parts of Kerala also. It would be worth if you would concentrate on other places of Kerala also
Metrorail is Great news for all kerala, similarly express highay is necessary for the development of all kerala

glad to see all the grt info abt metro mail in ur comments...wud like to know more details...do u hav a landmap for poposed implementation? i saw such a map for seaport airport road somewhere...it seems like now we have 4 ways to go the same way..all parallel to each other...crisscrossing almost the same terrain...nh47..searportairport..normal rail path and metro path....dunno whether putting everything across the same places was the wisest thing to do...wud be interesting to see how the suburbs r going to comeup with time...
I am from Trivandrum. The write up was really passionate and with some unrealistic dreams and twisted facts about Trivandrum.
Evidennu kitti Trivandrum ile oru Bandh daynu edutha oru photo?
After all, what is the current status of your " Metro " rail.. ha hahahha
Hi Krishna!!
The facts that I have wrote about TVM with regard to Metro Rail are not made by me. It was given by Delhi metro rail team who tried about the feasibility of metro rail in tvm.
It is made clear by them!!!ok!!so it is not at all unrealistic..
Then I have been to TVM various times and I have stayed there for many days and I know well about areas in TVM. The TVM road picture that I had shown was to indicate how wide the roads are in some places especially areas near assembly, kowdiar palace, vellayambalam etc and it didn't mean anything else. (I feel you meant that I have shown a deserted road in tvm). You are mistaken,Krishna.
Anyways we all know where the traffic is more, in tvm or in kochi and who desperately needs metro rail.
As far Kochi's current status of metro rail is concerned, why you are soo happy!!it makes me ponder!!
It is surprising that the local political leaders of both ruling and opposition parties, including the MP, MLAs,Mayor and the Councillors have, maintained a calculated silence over this project.
Are they not sensitive to the worsening traffic problem of the city or are they more interested in safe guarding the interest of a section of business community or the private bus operators?
The main apprehension voiced against the project is the possible delay in its completion once it is launched. This fear is quite understandable considering the past experiences.
But in this case, one need not have such doubts as it is entrusted with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The DMRC is headed by Mr Sreedharan who is a no non sense man with impeccable track records. Hence his assurances as regards to the Project can be taken at its face value.
ok dear bye
